Leagues & Ages

t-ball

T-Ball is a great way to learn!

London Baseball runs seven different leagues, catering to children of various ages and abilities. All leagues except the Junior Girls and Senior Girls Softball leagues are co-ed.

Below are brief descriptions of each league. The suggested age ranges refer to a child's age on July 31st. In exceptional cases, a child may play in a league for older or younger children, but only after consultation with his/her coach and the London Baseball Commissioners.

T-Ball (Instructional League)

T-Ball is for children who will be 5 or 6 years old on July 31 st (generally for children in K1 or K2 in the American school system).

T-Ball is an instructional league- there are no "outs" and score is not kept. The ball is hit off a waist-height, rubber batting "tee" with no pitcher. It's a great introduction to the sport for the little ones.

Coaches Pitch (Instructional League)

Coaches Pitch is for children who will be 7 or 8 years old on July 31 st (generally for 1st and 2nd graders in the American school system. It is not intended for kindergarten (K-2) kids -- who should usually play in T-Ball even if they are old for their class. Coaches Pitch can however accommodate some 3rd graders (children who will be 9 years old on July 31) -- This is an appropriate place for an older child who is new to the game, who needs further instruction, or who doesn't want to play in a competitive league.

In Coaches Pitch the coaches are the pitchers, because the children typically do not have the skills to pitch accurately (and safely). -- Called strikeouts are not allowed, but outs can be made by striking out a batter swinging, catching fly balls or throwing out base runners. An inning continues until all batters on each side have batted. The "three out" rule to end the inning does not apply.

Minor League (Competitive League)

The Minor League is for children who will be 9 or 10 years old on July 31 st (generally (but not exclusively) for 3rd and 4th graders in the American school system). This league is competitive. Scores and standings are kept. There are backstops and umpires, players can strike out and the "three-outs is an inning" rule applies. The players pitch for themselves. This is for many children their first opportunity to play real competitive baseball - It is an exciting league to play in and to watch. Not uncommonly 11 year-olds (5th graders in the American school system) will play Minors instead of Majors if they are less competitive or new to the game.

Jr. Girls Softball (Competitive League)

Junior Girls Softball is for girls who will be 9, 10, or 11 years old on July 31 (generally 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in the American school system). Alternatively, girls who are 9 or 10 years old may play baseball in the Minors League. We encourage girls who enjoy baseball to play in that league.

Junior Girls Softball is competitive -- there are umpires, the girls pitch for themselves, and scores and standings are kept.

Major League (Competitive League)

This league is designed primarily for boys and girls who will be 11 or 12 years old on July 31 (generally 5 th or 6 th graders in the American school system). This league is very competitive, and is a forum for some excellent play. 13 year olds can play in majors but can not pitch.

Senior Girls Softball (Competitive League)

Senior Girls Softball is for girls who will be 12,13,14 and 15 years old on July 31 (generally 6th-9th graders in the American school system). Alternatively, 11,12 or 13 year old girls are welcome to sign up to play baseball in the Majors. Senior Girls Softball is a very competitive league and the games are always very exciting.
