Coaches Pitch

COACHES PITCH (CP) is an instructional division (i.e., no scores are kept, no results count in the standings, no umpires, and no balls/strikes; batter swings from a pitch thrown by a Coach; a catcher can be either a player or a coach).
RULES
GAME BASICS
- The kids must have fun.
- Co-ed (girls and boys) teams.
- Beginners welcomed.
- Everyone plays.
- No score keeping.
- No balls or strikes.
- No umpires.
- No video replays can be used from a fan, parent, coach to decide a play.
- Home team gets to choose their dugout side (e.g., right side/first base side or left side/third base side).
- A coach and assistants are assigned by the League to each team.
- Team schedules and field assignment are assigned by the League.
- No playoffs.
- Coaches for both teams are responsible to supervise play.
- Players are assigned by the League to each team.
- Prior to the start of a game, infield practice can be taken by both the away and home team, i.e., this should be limited to 25 minutes for each team.
- Five minutes prior to the game opposing coaches should meet at home plate to review any misc., items.
- All broken equipment that cannot be immediately fixed must be removed from play and returned to the League desk.
- Multiple player field substitutions can be used although players must remain in their respective batting order.
- Courtesy runners can be used solely for a catcher or an injured player.
- Injured players must be removed from a game and the League desk should be immediately alerted.
- The coach that team is batting can pitch to their own batters. Further this coach makes the call on the field (i.e., safe or out only).
- Only one coach (he or she that is pitching) should be on the field of play.
- Coaches for the team on the field may take positions outside of the foul lines.
- Every batter should be limited to a maximum of receiving eight pitches before their coach can decide to make use of a batters T.
- To speed up a game the change over between innings should be a maximum of 3 minutes.
- If is the responsibility of the home team coach to ensure everything is picked up after a game and/or rain delay, with the exception of the League field equipment e.g., backstop and etc.
- Each coach is responsible for the behavior of his or her team’s fans behavior.
EQUIPMENT
- Players must wear their assigned uniforms (team hat and top) cleaned at all times when playing.
- No metal cleats. Molded rubber (baseball or soccer) cleats only can be
- used. (See graphic at the bottom of the page).
- Only preapproved bases by the League can be used for games.
- Bats that are League approved are allowed (e.g., aluminum, wooden, or composite). Refer to guide below.
- Players are encouraged to wear baseball pants and they should refrain from wearing shorts (as sliding may occur which can cause injuries).
- Soft baseballs will be used.
- Helmets (assigned or approved by the League) can only be used. Helmets must be worn at all times by the batting team, base runners and on deck batters.
- Only one player is allowed in the on deck circle.
- Catchers must wear equipment assigned or approved by the League at all time when fielding their position e.g., helmet, catchers mask, catchers glove, throat guard, chest protector, shin guards, and protector cup.
- Any equipment worn by a player that is a distraction or becomes a health and safety risk e.g., undershirt, faulty equipment or etc., should not be worn. If so, the League reserves the right to request the player to remove the item or replace it.

FIELD DIMENSIONS
- 36 feet is the distance from pitchers plate to home plate.
- 55 feet is the distance from one base to another.
- No one allowed behind the backstop.

FIELDING RULES
- No players are allowed to coach first or third base i.e., only coaches.
- No bunting.
- No infield fly rule.
- No stealing.
- No leadoffs.
- Unlimited outs i.e., each teams players must bat at least one time per half inning.
- No intentional passes to batter to first base i.e., all batters should be allowed to hit the pitched baseball. If the batter struggles to hit a pitched baseball, their coach may allow the hitter to make use of a batting T.
- All players not on the field or at bat during a game must remain in their assigned dugout.
- Minimum of seven players to a side. If there are less then seven players to a side at game time both opposing coaches should mutually agree to switch players from one team to another to start and finish a game.
- At the start of a game each coach should name his or her batting lineup.
- Each teams batters should only bat in the order as denoted in their teams batting order. If a player is substituted or he or she remains in the batting order in the same place at bat.
- Players that arrive late must take the last place in the batting order i.e., coaches cannot rearrange the batting order once the game begins with this sole exception.
- No one is allowed behind the backstop.
- Players not batting or fielding must remain in their dugout during a game, unless permitted to by their coach.
- Fielders must wear baseball gloves.
- There may be more than nine players on the field.
- All fielders must be within the fair lines when the ball it pitched with the exception of the catcher.
- A fielder can only be parallel to a pitcher and no closer to the batter.
- Players are encouraged to slide and avoid contact at all times.
- Batters are not allowed to throw wildly a bat after they hit or swing a bat.
- On overthrows into foul territory, allow the kids to advance only to one base beyond the one in front of them. Play stops when the ball gets back to the pitcher. Overthrows into fair territory do not stop play - the kids can keep running. No running on balls that get by the catcher ("passed balls"). These are just ignored.
- Since the coaches are pitching, the "youth pitcher" should stand behind and to the side of the adult pitcher, and he/she participates as a fielder after the pitch is made.
