2007/2008 Season

This is the homepage for LondonSports Basketball, a winter basketball program for boys and girls aged 7 to 14 (American 2nd to 8th grade). The league generally runs from late November to mid March, but the schedule changes slightly each year based on the timing of school holidays. We welcome children of all nationalities whether they are newcomers to the game or are experienced players. Our goal is to give every player the chance to learn about basketball, improve their skills and develop self-confidence and self-esteem. In all of our divisions, whether competitive or instructional, we emphasize the value of teamwork and, above all, good sportsmanship.

This web site is divided into several sections where you can find more detailed information about the five divisions, the schedule, where we play, how to volunteer, skill assessments, etc. You can navigate through the LondonSports Basketball website by clicking on the buttons on the left of the screen.

The “Announcements” area on the LondonSports homepage is where we update information about the clinics, the skill assessment session, team practice schedules, play-off schedules and, generally, any special announcements. Please check this page frequently beginning in the fall and throughout the season. Since we play indoors, thankfully there should be no ‘rainouts'.

The “Divisions and Ages” area provides general information on how we structure the league. It is important to note, however, that each year we may adjust the structure to reflect the registration numbers. The league is limited in size to ensure that all children are given an opportunity to play (the court time is limited based on availability). Please register your child for the correct division based on his or her school grade ( American School ) or equivalent if attending the British or other school system. Based on the results of the skills assessment session prior to the start of the season, the Division Heads may then agree to move children across divisions. This is done to ensure the children have a good time, are challenged, play at the appropriate level and develop sportsmanship. The league is dependent on volunteer division heads, coaches and assistant coaches. If we do not have sufficient numbers of volunteers then the size of the league can be reduced.

Due to the difficulty of obtaining enough court time, the league plays at two different venues. Please make a note to check the “Schedules” and “Where We Play” areas to confirm where and when your child's division will be playing.

This year we anticipate opening registration shortly after the start of the LondonSports Football season (late September) and closing it on November 2, just prior to the first skills assessment sessions. Please note, however, that the division sizes are limited and that registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

For the 2007/2008 LondonSports Basketball season, the fee for the five older divisions is £90.00 per child and the fee for the 2nd Grade Co-Ed Division is £60.00 per child. Registration fees can only be made online by credit or debit card. This helps us to keep down administration costs. To register your child to play in the league, you need to go to the Registration section. While you are doing this, please consider volunteering to coach or assistant coach as we can not run this league without your help!

Team assignments for the five older divisions should be available prior to the Thanksgiving weekend.
