Next Stop - World Cup!

The Football Association runs six different leagues ("Divisions"), catering to children of various ages. Divisions E and F are for girls only -- while Divisions A , B and C are generally for boys only. The other Divisions are co-ed. Note that a particularly talented girl may well want to play in the Divisions A or B and there is not a problem with doing this if her ability level is consistent with the boys -- we separate the ages as much for safety as anything else as the boys tend to play a rough-and-tumble game as they get older.

Also note that the ages are not absolute guides as to which Division to sign up for -- sometimes the grade at school is a better measure of where a child will most easily fit in. The Divisions are broken down as follows from the youngest to the oldest:

Division K - Kindergarten - Coed

This league is for girls and boys who are four and five years old at the beginning of the season. This is grade grade K1 and K2 in the American School. This Division is is instructional with less emphasis on competition, and no try-outs are held at this age level.

Division D - Coed

This Division is for girls and boys who are six or seven years old at the beginning of the season -- generally 1st and 2nd graders. This league can however accommodate 3rd graders (8 yr olds) -- and this is an appropriate place to put a 8 yr old who is new to the game, or needs further instruction, or who doesn't for any reason have the interest to play in a more competitive league.

Division C - Boys

This Division is for boys generally in 3rd or 4th grade -- children who are 8 or 9 years old at the beginning of the season.

Division B - Boys

This Division is for boys in 5th and 6th grade -- boys generally who are 10 or 11 years old on opening day.

Division A - Boys

This Division is for boys in 7th and 8th grade -- boys of 12 or 13 years old at the beginning of the season.

Division E - Girls

This Division is for girls in 6th 7th and 8th grades -- including girls from 10 to 13 years of age inclusive.

Division F - Girls

This is a new division for girls in 3rd 4th or 5th grades -- girls who are 8 and 9 years old.This league will only operate if there is sufficient interest to make up enough teams otherwise girls in this age group will join Division C.
